Dear Parents
On behalf of children, staff and governors, I would like to welcome you and your child to Ravensden Church of England V.A. Lower School.
This web site aims to give you information about our school and the education we can offer your child. I hope it will be a useful source of information throughout your child’s time with us.
Ravensden Lower School is a happy, lively place where everyone is expected to work hard, try their best and achieve their potential. We believe in a strong relationship between home and school and that working together with families is the best way to ensure success for the children.
Ravensden Lower School is located 3 miles north of Bedford situated in a country village. The school comprises of three classrooms, an ICT suite, a library and assembly hall; all have recently been refurbished to a high standard. Each classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard and projector. We are also fortunate in having extensive grounds, which include a large sports field, playgrounds, children's garden, wheelchair access and designated parent/visitor parking facilities.
The teacher/pupil ratio is extremely good, giving each child a great deal of individual attention. Pupils are also supported by teaching assistants who receive appropriate training. Teaching approaches are varied and adapted to suit the needs of all pupils and to maximise success.
Ravensden Lower School is a Voluntary Aided (Church of England) School. The Church is represented on the governing body, and the school benefits from the strong links with the Church and the local community.
Our Ofsted report (Sept 2007) stated:
- Ravensden is a good school…providing good value for money… with a strong, caring Christian atmosphere.
- Pupils flourish in the school.
- Teaching is good and children are well engaged in a wide range of purposeful activities that enable them to make good progress in all areas of learning.
- Pupils’ personal development, including their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is good.
If you are a prospective parent we do hope that you will be able to visit and experience the caring, supportive family atmosphere throughout the school.
